General Questions

1. Who is Visto Mouldings? Visto Mouldings is a Pretoria-based manufacturer and supplier of high-quality skirting boards, architraves, cornices, laminate & vinyl flooring, decking timber, and custom blinds. We specialise in factory-direct pricing, professional installation across Gauteng, and outstanding service.

2. Do you deliver and install? Yes — we deliver throughout Gauteng. We offer professional installation for skirting, cornices, laminate/vinyl flooring, and blinds in Pretoria and surrounding areas. Decking is supply-only (we can recommend reliable fitters).

Skirting & Mouldings

3. What materials do you offer for skirting and architraves?

  • Supawood/MDF (painted or ready for painting)
  • Pine (various grades) — Our budget-friendly 90x16 pine with tight knots is one of our best sellers. We also offer premium 100x19 clear finger-jointed (FJ) pine and 140x20 solid clear/semi-clear pine.
  • Hardwood in clear grade — one of the few suppliers that offer this, which is an important distinction when comparing quotes.

4. Why choose wooden skirting over PVC? Natural wood delivers a premium, seamless finish with superior long-term durability and is a more eco-friendly choice when FSC-certified. It can be sanded, stained, repaired, and repainted. PVC often looks cheaper, is difficult to install perfectly on uneven or skew walls, cannot achieve a truly seamless look, and is almost impossible to repair or match exactly if damaged or discontinued.

5. What are the different grades of pine skirting? We stock clear/semi-clear and knotty grades. Clear/semi-clear gives a smoother, knot-free premium finish. Knotty grade is more affordable, yet still very high quality, and remains one of our best sellers. All our pine is kiln-dried for stability and performance.

6. How much does skirting cost? Pricing depends on the material, grade, and size. Please refer to our website for current profiles and prices.

Cornices

7. What type of cornices do you supply? We manufacture both EPS (expanded) and XPS (extruded) polystyrene cornices in a wide range of profiles. EPS is more cost-effective and paints beautifully; XPS is slightly denser. We supply and professionally install in Pretoria and Centurion.

Flooring

8. What’s the difference between laminate and vinyl flooring? Laminate is durable with a realistic wood-look and we offer a range of water-resistant options. Vinyl is PVC-based and water-resistant, but it can be damaged by prolonged exposure to excess moisture and usually requires more subfloor preparation than laminate. Water-resistant laminate flooring has become the best option when looking for laminate flooring or vinyl flooring. For more information feel free to contact us for a full explanation.

9. Is your vinyl flooring really waterproof? No. There is no truly waterproof laminate, water-resistant laminate, or vinyl flooring on the market — only water-resistant options exist. Any company claiming their flooring is fully waterproof is misleading customers.

10. What should I ask when getting a laminate or vinyl quote?

  • What is the warranty length?
  • Is it water-resistant?
  • Is underlay included?
  • What installation method is used (floating or glue-down)?
  • How good is the colour stability and fade resistance?
  • Are matching skirting and architraves available?
  • Do I need self-levelling screed to make the floor level and ready for the choice of floor I chose?

We’re happy to answer all of these questions transparently and upfront.

Maintenance Tips

  • Wooden skirting & mouldings: Dust regularly with a soft cloth or vacuum brush attachment. Clean with a slightly damp cloth and mild soap when needed. Avoid soaking with water. Periodically sand and repaint or re-stain to refresh the look and extend lifespan.
  • Vinyl & laminate flooring: Sweep or vacuum frequently to remove grit and sand. For vinyl, mop with a mild cleaner; avoid harsh chemicals or standing water. For laminate, use a damp (not wet) mop and products recommended by the manufacturer. Protect with felt pads on furniture legs.

Why wooden skirting is a long-term investment Wooden skirting adds timeless elegance and real value to your home. Unlike PVC, it can be repaired, sanded, and refinished multiple times, so it lasts for decades instead of needing full replacement. It adapts to changing décor, maintains a premium seamless look, and is easier to match or repair years later.

Modern flooring options are better than ever Today’s water-resistant laminate flooring benefit from major advancements in water-resistant technology, realistic wood textures, and improved durability. Better wear layers offer stronger fade and scratch resistance, making them more affordable and practical for busy South African homes — including kitchens and high-traffic areas — while still delivering beautiful wood-look results.

Eco-friendly & FSC-certified options We support sustainable choices. All of our timber products come from responsibly managed sources and is FSC-certified. Choosing responsibly sourced wood helps reduce environmental impact compared to non-renewable alternatives.
